SCIENCE 2 U FALL 2021 CLASSES AT EIE

LOCATION: 2640-A7 Myrtle Ave. Monrovia, 91016. Their direct # is 626-821-0025.

CALENDAR: 
Elementary classes will begin Tuesday, September 7th, 2021 with First Semester ending January 18th, 2022. The Second Semester starts January 25th and ends Tuesday, May 31st, 2022.

Jr. High and High School Classes will begin Monday, August 30th, 2021, and end Monday, May 9th, 2022 with Chemistry Lecture ending Tuesday, May 10th, 2022.

There will be no classes on the following dates: Nov 22/23, Dec 20/21, Dec 27/28, 2021; Jan 3/4, Feb 21/22, Apr 11/12, Apr 18/19, 2022.

ELEMENTARY CLASSES $280 PER SEMESTER

Hands-on science classes for K-5th grade. The subject of study changes monthly with a mix of physical and life science courses. All supplies will be provided. No textbook is required. All Elementary classes are taught by Martin Forte.

JR HIGH CLASSES $400 PER SEMESTER

All supplies will be provided for classes. Lab books will be available through Google Classroom and will need to be printed at home. Full class descriptions and textbook information may be found at the top navigation under Jr High. Physical Science is available to both 8th and 9th grade students. All Jr. High classes are taught by Jill Wilcox.    

Life Science 6th-8th $400

This course is for Jr High students (6th-8th) and is an introduction to the life sciences. We will cover cells, genetics, mitosis/meiosis, photosynthesis, protein synthesis, respiration, the 6 kingdoms, and human anatomy. Each week will have a live lecture and hands-on lab. Textbook reading, homework questions, lab paperwork, and tests will be completed by the student at home. A science fair project will also be completed by each student during 2nd semester. A field trip may be offered.

LIFE SCIENCE

Physical Science 8th-9th $400

This course may be for late Jr High or early High School (8th-9th) and is an introduction to chemistry and physics. It is highly recommended that students take this class prior to high school chemistry and physics. A basic understanding of algebra (how to solve for one unknown) is required. We will cover the scientific method, measurements, energy and motion, the nature of matter, atomic structure and the periodic table, elements and their properties, and interactions of matter like chemical reactions. Waves, light, and sound will be covered followed by electricity and magnetism. Each week will have a live lecture and hands-on lab. Textbook reading, homework questions, lab write-ups, and tests will be completed by the student at home. A science fair project will also be completed by each student during 2nd semester.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES $400 - $500 PER SEMESTER

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

Biology 9-10th $450

This course is a high school level biology class. It meets a-g requirements. This class will include such topics as: intro to chemistry, cell biology, protein synthesis, photosynthesis, thorough coverage of genetics, ecology, classification, and a survey of the kingdoms including: archaebacteria, eubacteria, protista, fungi, plantae, and animalia. We will also study human anatomy prior to our field trip. Each week will have a live lecture and hands-on lab. Textbook reading, homework questions, lab reports, and tests will be completed by the student at home. One long-term project and two practicum tests will also be included. A field trip to Southern California Health Sciences will be offered 2nd semester.

BIOLOGY 

Chemistry 10-12th $500

This course is a high school level chemistry class. It meets a-g requirements.  Each week will have live hands-on lab and an online Tuesday or Thursday lecture. Weekly homework, lab reports and tests will be completed by the student at home. Topics include: The structure of an atom, elements of the periodic table, chemical bonding, molecular structure and reactivity, mole concepts and stoichiometry, gases, solutions, acids & bases, reaction rates and chemical equilibrium, redox reactions and electrochemistry, and introduction to biochemistry and organic chemistry. 
Prerequisite: Completion of Algebra 1

MONDAY     2:00pm – 3:00pm
                       in-person lab

And one of the following:

THURSDAY   8:15am – 9:30am 
                        (online lecture)

OR                  2:45pm – 4:00pm
                       (online lecture) 

Times for lecture are approximate. You must stay for the entire lecture. The lab will be repeated after the lecture ends. You are not required to stay online for that portion, but you are welcome.
