CALENDAR: Mandatory orientation August 24-26th. Class instruction begins August 31st, 2021 with 1st Semester ending December 16th. Second Semester starts January 11th and ends May 12th, 2022.Â
There will be no classes on the following dates: Nov 22 – 26, Dec 17 – Dec 31, 2021;Â Jan 1 – Jan 7, Feb 21 – 25, Apr 11 – Apr 22, 2022.

*There is an annual student fee for all students taking classes at Pacific Coast Learning Center. Some charter schools allow for this fee to be added to the cost of classes rather than being paid out-of-pocket by parents. If your charter agrees, you may add the fee to your purchase order, half per semester, to cover student fees. You may select this option when you register for classes on their website.Â
ELEMENTARY CLASSES $280* PER SEMESTER
Hands-on science classes for K-5th grade. The subject of study changes monthly with a mix of physical and life science courses. Supplies will not be provided for online classes. A supply list will be available by July 26th on our website.

Earth Science 6-8th
This course is for Jr High students (6th-8th). We will cover material in the following areas: stars and planets, the sun, asteroids, comets, meteors, The Space Program, weather, rocks and minerals, fossils, mountain formation, volcanoes, earthquakes, erosion, glaciers and more! Each week will have a live lecture and hands on lab. Textbook reading, homework questions, lab paperwork and tests will be completed by the student at home. A science fair project will be completed by each student during 2nd semester. A field trip will also be offered.quakes, erosion, glaciers and more!

EARTH SCIENCE
Life Science 6-8th
This course is for Jr High students (6th-8th) and is an introductory to the life sciences. We will cover cells, genetics, mitosis/meiosis, photosynthesis, protein synthesis, respiration, the 6 kingdoms and human anatomy. Each week will have a live lecture and hands on lab. Textbook reading, homework questions, lab paperwork and tests will be completed by the student at home. A science fair project will also be completed by each student during 2nd semester. A field trip may be offered.

LIFE SCIENCE
Marine Science 6-7th
This course is designed for younger Jr. High students (ideally 6th grade). We will introduce your student to the beauty of our oceans and the organisms that live in them. We will also focus on some local creatures that live right on our beaches, including the California grunion which lays its eggs here in the sand! Some dissections and fun projects are included. We will also take 1-2 field trips. Each week will have a live lecture and hands on lab. Textbook reading, homework questions, lab paperwork and tests will be completed by the student at home. A Shark project will also be completed by each student during 2nd semester.

MARINE SCIENCE
HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES $400 - $500* PER SEMESTER

Physical Science 8-9 $400
This course may be for late Jr High or early High School (8th-9th) and is an introduction to chemistry and physics. It is highly recommended that students take this class prior to high school chemistry and physics. A basic understanding of algebra (how to solve for one unknown) is required. We will cover the scientific method, measurements, energy and motion, the nature of matter, atomic structure and the periodic table, elements and their properties and interactions of matter like chemical reactions. Waves, light and sound will be covered followed by electricity and magnetism. Each week will have a live lecture and hands on lab. Textbook reading, homework questions, lab write ups and tests will be completed by the student at home. A science fair project will also be completed by each student during 2nd semester. Supplies will not be provided for online classes. A supply list will be available by July 26th on our website.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Biology 9-10th $450
This course is a high school level biology class. It meets a-g requirements. This class will include such topics as: intro to chemistry, cell biology, protein synthesis, photosynthesis, thorough coverage of genetics, ecology, classification, and a survey of the kingdoms including: archaebacteria, eubacteria, protista, fungi, plantae, and animalia. We will also study human anatomy prior to our field trip. Each week will have a live lecture and hands on lab. Textbook reading, homework questions, lab reports and tests will be completed by the student at home. One long term project and two practicum tests will also be included. A field trip to Southern California Health Sciences will be offered 2nd semester. Supplies will not be provided for online classes. A supply list will be available by July 26th on our website.

BIOLOGYÂ
Chemistry 10-12th $500
This course is a high school level chemistry class. It meets a-g requirements. Each week will have a live lecture and hands on lab. Weekly homework, lab reports and tests will be completed by the student at home. Topics include: The structure of an atom, elements of the periodic table, chemical bonding, molecular structure and reactivity, mole concepts and stoichiometry, gases, solutions, acids & bases, reaction rates and chemical equilibrium, redox reactions and electrochemistry, and introduction to biochemistry and organic chemistry. Supplies will not be provided for online classes. A supply list will be available by July 26th on our website.
