Note: Lab supplies will be provided when students are In-Person for class. For online students, a supply list will be provided so they may do the experiments with us. The cost of lab supplies should also be covered by charter school funds if purchased through an approved vendor.

Junior High Life Science (7th Grade, NGSS-Aligned)

Step into the fascinating world of life sciences in this hands-on course designed for junior high students (ideal for 7th grade). Students explore key biology topics, including:

• cells
• genetics
• mitosis
• meiosis
• photosynthesis
• cellular respiration
• the six kingdoms of life
• human anatomy
• ecology

All of this instruction while developing scientific inquiry and laboratory skills. Instruction emphasizes NGSS-aligned Science and Engineering Practices, including asking questions, planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing data, developing and using models, constructing explanations, and engaging in argument from evidence. Each week features a live lecture and hands-on lab, with all lab supplies provided for in-person students. Textbook readings, homework, lab reports, and tests are completed at home. Students design a science fair project during the second semester, and an optional field trip may be offered to support real-world application.

This course meets weekly for 1.5 hours (45 min. of lecture, 45 min. of lab). Weekly homework assignments from the textbook, lab reports, and handouts will be completed by the students at home each week. Tests will be taken online at home and are to be administered by their parent. One in-class practicum test will be given by the instructor (IF POSSIBLE THIS YEAR)
