Note: Materials will be provided when students are in person for class.Â
Psychology is the study of the human mind and behavior.Â
In this year-long intro course, students will gain insight into the birth of psychology, its major figures, perspectives, and most famous studies.
Students will learn to:
- Evaluate psychological research
- Describe the anatomy and function of the brain
- Apply evidence-based techniques to improve study skills
- Explore mental disorders and treatment
This course will also cover topics including:
- memory
- learning and cognitive development
- motivation
- personality theories
- lifespan development
- social psychology
In the classroom, students will receive direct instruction and participate in classroom activities and discussions.Â
At home, students will be responsible for weekly reading and assignments including projects and one paper per semester. The unit on mental disorders and treatment is always a student favorite.Â
Students will learn how the DSM is used to diagnose mental disorders, give a PowerPoint presentation on an assigned disorder, and evaluate a movie character of their choice for diagnosis.
